Luis Ramón’s Story

MY CKD:

I had symptoms like leg and ankle swelling (edema) and a loss of appetite. The blood test showed very high prostate specific antigen (PSA). In the clinic, they didn´t take into account the growth of the prostate which caused some damage that resulted in a significant loss of blood. Subsequent treatment included three sessions of dialysis, blood transfusions and special diets. I am waiting now for a prostate operation, so I´m very hopeful. They advised me to eat a supplemented very low protein diet.

MY DIET:

At first, I had some doubts because it is a new lifestyle, we were used to eating a lot of protein (meat, milk, cheese, etc.), it is part of our eating habits. I started with a plant-based diet, then I also added chicken, turkey, fish etc.; Initially, it is not easy to start with this kind of diet, but when you see the results, you start to believe in the treatment. So, I can say that if you are committed and if you want to take care of your kidney health, you can start with such a treatment.

MY LIFE:

My daily routine before the operation includes reading, walks when the weather allows it, a little exercise. I hope that after the operation I can do more activity.

MY SUPPORT:

I am very grateful for the support and patience they have had with me, especially my wife, my daughter, doctor, nurses, and nutritionists who have been treating me with efficiency and concern.

Luis Ramons Advice - Follow the recommendations of doctors and nutritionist and if you are committed to delaying dialysis and feeling better you should eliminate animal proteins from your diet.
